Laurence & Helen Beere

In 1987, Helen and Laurence arrived in London, aged 18: she from  Aberystwyth, a trainee chef, he from Croydon, aspiring to manage. They met where they trained, at the Savoy Group, since when they’ve shared lives, careers and adventures.

Having trained, they worked in various roles for the Group before pitching up in Switzerland to soak up continental culture. The absorption was abbreviated: Laurence was sought out again by Savoy as Assistant Food & Beverage Manager, while Helen became restaurant manager at The Langham Hilton.

Laurence shed ‘Assistant’ from his job title at 25 while Helen took a career break to bring up their children. Two years later, Laurence joined Cliveden Ltd and was General Manager and Operations Director for six years.

Since then it’s been all about Bath.

In 1998 Laurence worked briefly for The Royal Crescent Hotel. The short-term stay was long enough: the city got under their skin, into their hearts and stayed.

Five years later they did the best thing – outside of family – they’ve ever done: they bought the Queensberry Hotel and Olive Tree Restaurant. The opportunities were unmissable: to build an amazing business, to live in Bath, to work together.

Now, years on, they feel just as thrilled and no less proud of all they’ve achieved, not least of the often off-centre and reliably positive experience which is the hallmark of everything that’s quintessentially Queensberry.
